Sorabiyori is a must-have for Tokino Sora fans

In the VTuber world, Valentine’s Day has been synonymous with special new content for fans. While this has typically meant themed voice packs and new videos, Tokino Sora raised the bar this year with Sorabiyori, a gorgeous, full-color book of photos and other material featuring the popular VTuber.

Not being in Japan, I got my copy a bit late, but none of the romance was lost as I was greeted with Sora-chan beaming at me from the cover.

The first thing that jumped out to me was the size – this is an oversized book, which means you’re getting dozens of beautiful images that aren’t just high resolution but are also large enough to really take in how much care has been put into this work. And while we’d hate to be deprived of the alluring cover sleeve art, the cover beneath is pure white with cute pink text that’s attractive in its minimalism.

If the cover had set high expectations, they were more than satisfied with the contents. Any fan will be delighted by the 144 pages of pictures, interviews, and personal notes from Sora herself. The photo sets are split roughly in half, with the first half themed as if you’re on a date together. Joyful, thoughtful, teasing, blushing, and above all cute, these alone would make for a superb compilation, and it’s hard to pick a favorite.

However, after that we’re also treated to dozens more showing us Sora’s everyday life, with scenes ranging from practice and concert stills to hanging out with some of her fellow Hololivers. From the variety of different facial expressions, settings and poses, it’s clear that Sora has, as always, put a ton of effort into giving her fans something special.

And if that wasn’t good enough, we’re also given three interviews – a short form question-and-answer and two long form interviews, one with Sora herself and one with her and Masayoshi Oishi, musician and MC of the VTuber musical program V-On!! (ぶいおん!!) on which Sora has also appeared. Even those who may think they know Sora from A-chan to VTuber will probably learn a thing or two!

All of this is complemented by a number of extras, including a postcard, double-sided poster, and a link to a special making-of video.

Sorabiyori translates to something like “perfect Sora weather,” and in the depths of an (albeit mild) winter, Sora’s sunny presence has warmed us right up. And at roughly $30 USD plus shipping from Amazon.jp and with other retailers offering bromides or clear file folders (supplies pending) along with the book it’s more than worth the cost.

  1. […] Tokino Sora (on Twitter here) celebrated her 20th birthday last week, and we’re celebrating by sharing this in-depth interview from her recently released photo collection! Those curious would do well to purchase the whole thing (about $30 USD) – even if you can’t read Japanese, it’s 144 pages of of high-quality original photos featuring her solo as well as alongside some friends from Hololive. You can also check out a full review of the collection I did here. […]
